Animal Fact of the Day
The Saola, also known as the Asian Unicorn, is one of the world’s rarest mammals. It was discovered in 1992, in the Annamese Mountains of Vietnam and Laos. Since that time, only 11 live animals have ever been recorded. Saolas possess the largest scent glands of any living species of mammal. These glands, used for territory marking, are located above the upper jawbone and are covered by a flap of skin that the Saola can open and close at will.
